Resilience

The basic meaning of resilience is the ability to withstand adversity, or more specifically the ability to be elastic or bounce back when bad things happen. Generally, the resilience of something is a measure of its diversity. (Diverse ecosystems and open minds withstand adversity better). The term has become prominent in considering the climate crisis because even the most optimistic scenarios acknowledge that most communities in the world are already seeing or will soon see increased stress. Resilience when considered at the community level is also a concept that effectively links social justice and the climate crisis. The most resilient communities will be those that create equity, belonging and diversity.
